New Kind of Buzz: Inhaled caffeine

I know, I know- Long time no see!!! In the blog world, 3 weeks is waaaaay too long to go without posting at least a hello! But I’m here, present and focused.

A lot- and I do mean A LOT- has taken place since my last post. In pop culture, we’ve seen the passing of two influential  figures in not only black entertainment but in the pop world overall ( Don Cornelius and Whitney Houston). On the political front, the GOP is rolling along, using potential presidential candidates as puppets to make our current president’s term his LAST one. On a personal note, things for me going quite well….Turning 30 soon has definitely cause to take stock of how my life is shaping out to be.  Yet none of this cause me to write down my thoughts.

However, I saw a story on Sunday’s ABC News that caught my little brown eye. It provoked me to talk about it-soon. Apparently drinking Starbucks coffee, downing cans of Red Bull, and sipping on those measly bottles of 5 -Hour Energy is not cutting it for some folks. A company called Breathable Foods ( headed by David Edwards, a Harvard professor, of all things) has put out a product called AeroShot. AeroShot, in short, is  powdered caffeine that is INHALED.  From what I read and heard, this stuff has been on the market on the East Coast for a few months now, making its rounds among the college campuses in that region.

Is it just me, or is this stuff a stepping stone to snorting cocaine? I think a lot of people forget that caffeine is indeed a stimulant and can be harmful when abused. It can  be addictive. Also, what are the effects if this is mixed with booze? Watch the video below and post your thoughts.

Using your goodies as a bargaining tool :The face of the “new” feminism?!

I know, it has been a while since my last posting! Between work, church-related obligations, family duties, and other things I have been crazy busy! But not THAT busy to miss out on my favorite train-wreck “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”! ( Do NOT even attempt to judge; I know you watch it or the other shows in “The Real Housewives” franchise too!). The lack of class among the nouveau riche always amuses me.

However, I can’t help but notice  a disturbing trend popping up with some of these women. More than one of ’em has questionable “wealth”. In other words, lifestyles of  the women in question has been funded by wealthy  MARRIED men who , in exchange for sex and eye candy, are willing to cater to their side chicks’ whims.  What’s even more saddening is that these women don’t even try to hide this shameful behavior. And the young girls who sit along aside their moms, aunts, and older sisters while viewing the show can’t tell the difference either.

So, has the idea of women creating REAL wealth with intelligence and self respect been replaced with shallowness, designer labels, and desperation? For the sake of the little girls in my life, I would pray not. I initially thought about posting a recap of Sunday’s episode of RHOA to prove my point, but I refuse to promote foolishness, especially when it involves black women on vacation in the Motherland. Post your thoughts.
